Philip D. Ray

Attorney, Law Office of Philip D. Ray

Philip D. Ray grew up in Dallas, attending St. Mark’s School and graduating in 1992. He went on to Tulane University with the intention of becoming a biomedical engineer. After being robbed at gunpoint on his own front porch and hit by a car on his bicycle, he left the Crescent City for safer lands. After graduating from Austin College with a Degree in Philosophy and a minor in Physics, his mentor made a bet with him about the LSAT which landed him at Texas Tech University School of Law. A graduate of the class of 2000, Philip was in a federal courtroom on September 11th, 2001 assisting his employer with a civil trial over resume puffery. Not long afterwards he left that firm and applied to District Attorney’s offices to become a prosecutor.

Beginning in Hood County in Granbury, then Cooke County in Gainesville, Potter County in Amarillo and then Williamson County in Georgetown, Philip worked all over Texas prosecuting everything from a speeding ticket in a boat to murder cases. After nearly ten years, he and his wife moved back to Dallas to have their first child in 2010. Together they opened the Law Office of Philip D Ray, and settled in Frisco, TX to raise their kids.

As a defense attorney, Philip practiced in 15 different counties throughout the first ten years, taking cases all over North Texas as well as returning down to the Austin area and into West Texas when the case needed him. Now, 25 years into the practice of law, Philip stays mostly in Denton and Collin Counties in State courts as well as the Federal Courts in Sherman, Plano, Dallas, and Ft. Worth where he handles all kinds of criminal cases including federal charges such as Medicare fraud, international conspiracy, Conspiracy to Distribute or import Controlled Substances, and money laundering. As a Criminal Justice Act panel attorney for over 15 years, He is also on the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Texas Planning Committee and has been a mentor for young lawyers on federal cases for many years now. His knowledge and experience have earned him a strong reputation that clients can count on when seeking legal guidance during a criminal investigation.

Staying closer to home, Philip has found greater joy outside the practice of law as a husband to Misty, a father to Olivia and Alexander, and as a soccer coach, a Cubmaster, a martial artist, and a Laity member of the United Methodist Church where he is a strong advocate for LGBT+ support.
