Joshua P. Searcy was appointed as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Texas overseeing the Tyler, Marshall, Lufkin, and Beaumont divisions in March, 2021.

A graduate of Baylor University School of Law, he previously earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Spanish from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and is an East Texas native. From 2006 until 2021 Judge Searcy practiced bankruptcy law in Longview, Texas with Searcy & Searcy, PC on behalf of debtors and creditors, represented financial institutions, and served as a panel Chapter 7 Trustee.

He previously served as Chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, is a past recipient of the Section’s Romina L. Mulloy Bossio Achievement Award and Robert B. Wilson Distinguished Service Award, and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 2018 Top 40 under 40 class.
